Silver Bay was a company town for the taconite minding industry, and Christian churches, in particular, arose in Silver Bay at roughly the same time as workers were settling into their new homes.

Sychar Lutheran Church was formed in 1953. Originally meeting in the Beaver Bay School, the church moved into its own building on the corner of Banks Boulevard and Edison Boulevard in 1955, holding its first services there on Christmas Eve. The congregation is affiliated with the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ, a centrist Lutheran body.

In the early years, the Lutheran Church shared the meeting place at Beaver Bay School with Saint Mary's Catholic Church. In 1955, the Catholic congregation moved to the newly built Campton Elementary School until building their own church building in 1957.

Founded in 1954, the United Protestant Church of Silver Bay was the first ecumenical Protestant Church in Minnesota. The interdenominational Christian congregation meets at its facilities on Horn Boulevard.

Another Lutheran congregation, affiliated with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, is Faith Lutheran Church, located on Outer Drive in Silver Bay.

Bay Area Vineyard is a Vineyard congregation meeting at their facilities on Edison Boulevard.
