Next to Minneapolis, Saint Paul is the second most populous city in Minnesota. As the state capital and one of two primary cities in the Twin Cities metropolitan region, nearly sixty percent of the state's population lives near Saint Paul, and most everyone comes to the city from time to time.

Saint Paul shares a portion of its boundaries with Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Maplewood, Minneapolis, Roseville, South Saint Paul, West Saint Paul, and it is separated from Lilydale, Mendota, and Mendota Heights by the river.

There are more than two hundred incorporated cities in the Twin Cities region, which includes a part of Wisconsin.

Several highways serve the population of Saint Paul, connecting the city to the rest of the region, and state. These include Interstate Highways 35-E and 94, US Highways 10, 52, and 61, and Minnesota State Highways 5, 51, and 280, as well as major streets, avenues, and boulevards that connect communities.
