As was the case in many other cities, churches were among the first organizations established.
The First Presbyterian Church was organized in 1887. Its first building, at Third Avenue and Third Street, was dedicated in 1888. The second church in Two Harbors was the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, which is now known as the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. In 1969. the First Presbyterian Church merged with the United Methodist Church to form the United Church of Two Harbors, which meets in the former Presbyterian church building. The Holy Spirit Catholic Church is still in service.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church was originally known as the First Norwegian Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church when it was created in 1889. Originally, the congregation met at the First Presbyterian Church building. In 1890, they built a church in cooperation with the Swedish Evangelical Church. Both congregations grew in membership, and separated in 1895, with the Danish congregation retaining the building.
Also founded in 1889, the Swedish Evangelical Church is now known as Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Organized in 1929, Living Waters Fellowship was originally known as the Two Harbors Gospel Tabernacle, and is affiliated with the General Council of the Assemblies of God.
The First Baptist Church of Two Harbors is affiliated with Converge Worldwide, formerly known as the Baptist General Conference.

First Baptist Church of Two Harbors

Established in 1888, the work of Catholic missionaries in the region that was to become Two Harbors, Minnesota began even before the 1800s.
