As was the case in most towns in Minnesota, Christian churches were established shortly after the community of White Bear Lake was founded. Some of these early churches are still in operation, while others have closed, moved, merged with other congregations, or changed names and affiliations.

Saint John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church is a traditional Episcopal congregation was formed in 1861, the first church in the White Bear region, and continues to be an active church, meeting at its facilities on 1st Street, near Clark Avenue.

Formed in 1864, First Presbyterian Church of White Bear Lake is located on Bloom Avenue.
