Often misspelled as Marigold or Merrigold, the small town of Merigold is in Bolivar County, in upper-eastern Mississippi. US Highway 61/278 passes through the western portion of the town, while Business Highway 61 leads through the center of Merigold, where it is also known as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street. Mound Bayou and Winstonville are north, while Renova is south of Merigold. Other nearby communities include Cleveland, Dockery, Drew, Jaquith, Kimball Lake, Laughlin, Lombardy, Malvina, Pace, Ruleville, Shelby, Symonds, Victor, and Whitney. Clarksdale, Mississippi is about thirty miles north of Merigold. Memphis, Tennessee is one hundred and eight miles to the north, state capital of Jackson, Mississippi is about one hundred and twenty-nine miles to the south, Tupelo is about one hundred and forty-eight miles to the northeast, and Little Rock, Arkansas is one hundred and seventy-eight miles northwest of Merigold. Po’ Monkey’s, one of only a few authentic juke joints still in operation, is one mile west of Merigold, and a historic marker designates it as a site on the Mississippi Blues Trail.
