Dennis Murphree, the 42nd and 47th governor of Mississippi, was born in Pittsboro in 1886, and he died there in 1949. In 1870, Pittsboro had a population of 186. In 2010, its population was 202. Pittsboro’s population peaked at 277 in 1990.
