Sebastopol, Mississippi is located mostly in the northeastern corner of Scott County, although a small portion of the town extends into Leake County. The town is centrally located between Forest, Carthage, Union, and Philadelphia. Other nearby communities include Hays, Horseshoe, Kitchener, Prospect, Salem, and Walnut Grove. Meridian, Mississippi is forty-eight miles southeast, and the state capital of Jackson is sixty-five miles southwest of Sebastopol. Originally, the community was known as Hathaway Springs, which was inhabited and named prior to the American Civil War, but not incorporated until 1917.
