The city of Albany is the county seat of Gentry County, Missouri. Founded in the 1840s, the city was originally named Athens, and later renamed for the capital city of New York by a county judge who came from that city. Albany is located on US Highway 136 and State Highway 85, west of New Hampton, east of Carmack and Stanberry, southeast of Gentry, north of Evona, and south of Siloam Springs.
