Bois D’Arc, Missouri is an unincorporated community in West Center Township of Greene County, about fifteen miles northwest of Springfield. The area was settled sometime prior to 1868, as a post office by that name existed at that time. At some point, its post office was discontinued, and reestablished a short distance away in 1888, originally as New Bois D’Arc, but its name was quickly shortened. It is believed that the town was named for an Osage orange tree, also known as a bois d’arc, that was planted by an early settler. The town was a station for the Gulf Railroad, serving as a shipping point for western Greene County. Bois D’Arc is southeast of Ash Grove, southwest of Willard, and northeast of Halltown.
