Located in the Ozark Mountains, Branson, Missouri spans both Stone and Taney counties. Currently known for its tourism opportunities, its initial settlement was centered around a general store and post office established in 1882 by Reuben Branson, for whom the city was named, although the city was not incorporated until 1912. In 1894, William Henry Lynch purchased Marble Cave, renamed it Marvel Cave, and began charging people to tour it. This cave was later modernized with electricity and concrete staircases, and is now part of Silver Dollar City, a recreation of a frontier town. In the mid to late 1900s, several other entertainment venues were to follow, particularly theaters. Branson now draws tourists from all over the country, particularly by car or bus. For air travelers, Branson is served primarily by the Branson Airport. By road, Branson is accessed chiefly through US Highway 65. Hollister is south of Branson, Kirbyville is to the east, and Bull Creek is to the north of the city. Branson West is immediately adjacent to the west side of Branson.
