The city of Brookfield is in Linn County, Missouri. The city was surveyed by John Wood Brooks, a Boston native, in 1859. The city is named for Brooks, as are four Brookfield streets: John, Wood, Brooks, and Boston streets. US Highway 36/Missouri Highway 5 run through the southern part of the city, while US Branch Highway 36 runs through the center of town. Laclede is west of Brookfield, while Bucklin is to the east, Marceline is to the southeast, and Rothville is south of town.
