The village of Claycomo, in Clay County, Missouri, began as a 412-acre farm belonging to the Barnes family. The farm was purchased by the Munger Investment Company, who platted the town. Roads were graded, and its streets were named for poets. The McMurry United Methodist Church and Munger School were built on land donated by Mr. Munger. The village was incorporated in 1946, and Ford Motor Company established a manufacturing facility there in 1951. Claycomo was named for Clay County, Missouri. Claycomo is accessed by I-35 to the west and I-435 to the east, with US Highway 69 passing directory through the village. Kansas City is to the southwest, Independence to the south, and Liberty to the northeast.
