The city of Dardenne Prairie is in St. Charles County, Missouri. Prior to its incorporation, the area was a well established prairie farming community, with Spanish Land Grants going back to 1799, and others in the early 1800s. William Clark, of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, passed through the area in 1808 on his way to establish Fort Osage, and Daniel Boone is known to have visited the region. Several natural springs are in the area, and mills for grinding grain were located along the Peruque Creek and the Dardenne Creek, for which the town was named. Although settled for centuries, Dardenne Prairie was not incorporated until 2001. US Highway 64 runs northwest and southeast through western Dardenne Prairie, while US Highway 70 runs east and west to the north of the city. The neighboring town of O’Fallon borders the city on the northeast, while Wentzville is to the northwest and Harvester is to the east.
