The city of Fair Grove is in Greene County, Missouri. Its history goes back to the early 1850s, when a log school known as the Duke School operated there, named for its first teacher, Chattam Duke. Later, the Methodist and Presbyterians began worshipping in a grove just east of the school, where they built an arbor and a small worship house. At one of their meetings, it was decided to refer to the place as Fair Grove, after the name of a Methodist Church in Randolph County, North Carolina, which one of the parishioners had been a member of. Soon, stores, blacksmith shops, and mills were built in Fair Grove. Today, Fair Grove is accessed by US Highway 65. Fruitland is to the west, Tin Town to the northwest, Redtop to the north, Elkland to the northeast, Cross Way and Conklin to the east, and Bassville to the south.
