Frontenac was laid out as Frontenac Estates in the 1940s, and named for the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City by Benjamin and Lora Wood, who made several trips to Quebec. The city was incorporated as Frontenac in 1947, then more than tripling in size through annexations in 1948. Largely a bedroom community of houses on one-acre lots, Frontenac is a wealthy inner-ring suburb of St. Louis, in center-eastern Missouri. Surrounding communities include Velda Village, St. Louis, Affton, Chesterfield, and Natural Bridge Junction. Some Frontenac address use a St. Louis post office address.
