Grain Valley, Missouri is in Jackson County, situated along Interstate 70, east of Blue Springs, Independence and Kansas City, west of Oak Grove, Bates City and Odessa, and south of Buckner. The Monkey Mountain Park Reserve is southeast of Grain Valley. Formed from two smaller towns, Pink Hill and Stony Point, in 1878, Grain Valley was incorporated as a city in 1945. The Pink Hill post office was established in 1854. The community that was to become Grain Valley experienced a great deal of guerrilla activity during the American Civil War, largely due to divided loyalties among residents.
