Gray Summit is an unincorporated community in Franklin County, Missouri. Also known as Gray’s Summit, the town was founded by Daniel Gray of New York, who built a hotel there in 1845. Gray Summit was the highest point on the Missouri Pacific Railroad between St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri. A railroad tunnel runs beneath the community. Gray Summit is home to Purina Farms and the Shaw Nature Reserve, and its post office has operated continuously since 1859. Gray Summit is situated along Interstate 44, east of Villa Ridge and west of Pacific.
