Hazelwood, Missouri is a northern suburb of the larger city of St. Louis, located in northwestern St. Louis County. The region’s settlement goes back to the Indian settlements of 4000 BC, and French explorers visited in the late 1600s, some settling in the area, followed by the Spanish in the late 1700s, and American settlers in 1797 and the years following. The community was finally incorporated as a village in 1949, in part to prevent its annexation by neighboring Florissant. Hazelwood became a city in 1969. The city is situated between the Missouri River, to the north, and I-270 to the south, with US Highway 67 running through the town. Florrisant is to the east and northeast, Castle Point is to the southeast, Natural Bridge Junction to the southwest, and St. Charles to the west.
