Situated in southern Missouri, the city of Hurley is in Stone County. Originally known as Spring Creek Mill, the mill was the beginning of Hurley’s industry, established by James Reynolds and Pryor Sanders in the early 1890s, using Spring Creek as a source of power for the milling of corn and wheat. Shortly after the mill was constructed, its owners quarreled, and the mill changed hands, becoming the property of E.R. Scott, and then Wade Jackson. Hurley is located along Missouri Route A, which becomes Main Street within the city limits. Union City is north-northeast of Hurley, Ponce de Leon is to the southeast, and Elsey is to the southwest.
