Located at the intersection of Missouri Route 58 and Missouri Supplemental Route W in Johnson County, Missouri, the city of Kingsville was named for General William King, an early settler who came to the area in 1851 and laid out the town in 1856. The first resident in the area is thought to have been Judge Anderson Smith, who settled at Bluff Spring in 1835 or 1836. The first post office was established as Bluff Spring in 1856, but was discontinued during the American Civil War, and when it was reestablished in 1865, the name was changed to Kingsville, around the time that the Missouri Pacific Railroad extended its tracks to the area. Kingsville is north of Rose Hill, northwest of Medford, and northeast of Hadsell.
