Named for John J. Lee, an early settler and the community’s first postmaster, the small city of Leeton is in Johnson County, Missouri. Leeton was one of the important trading points in the southern part of the county, situated on the Missouri, Kansas & Texas as well as the Rock Island Railroad lines, which paralleled each other. The town was platted as soon as the location of the railroad station was decided upon, and recorded in 1895. The town was incorporated in 1906. Missouri Highway 2 runs through the center of town, while Highway EE passed east-west in the northern part of Leeton. Newcastle is east of Leeton, while Post Oak is to the west and Shawnee Mound is southwest of the city.
