The city of Maplewood, Missouri is a suburb of the larger city of St. Louis, located just outside of that city’s limits. As one of the first suburbs of St. Louis, Maplewood was established in the early 1900s at the end of one of St. Louis’s streetcar lines, as well as near major railroads. With its historic residential areas built from 1900 to 1910, the city has always been primarily a bedroom community, although it has attracted some businesses, restaurants and shops, particularly around Manchester Avenue, Sutton Avenue, and the Greenwood Historic District. Maplewood borders St. Louis on the east. Other surrounding cities and towns include Velda Village to the north, Affton to the south, and Meacham Park to the southwest.
