A small city of under a thousand people, Miner is in both Mississippi County and Scott County, in southeastern Missouri. The city was founded in 1942, and incorporated in 1951. Originally an agricultural community, Miner was originally named Minner, for an early resident. However, the railroad inadvertently left out one of the n’s and Minner became Miner Switch, and then Miner. Businesses and residents in Miner receive their mail through the post office in Sikeston, which borders Miner. Because of their post office address, many businesses in Miner are considered by many to be in Sikeston. Miner is situated along Interstate Highway 55, just north of its intersection with Interstate Highway 57 and US Highway 60.
