The city of Montrose, Missouri is in Henry County. Like many other communities, the town got its start when the railroad came through the area. Formed in 1870, the town was named for Montrose, Scotland. At the time that Montrose was formed, a village known as Germantown was located four and a half miles northwest, but when the railroad bypassed Germantown, many of its inhabitants moved to Montrose, although a community still exists there. The city is located at the junction of Missouri Highways K and 52 in central Missouri. Montrose is south of Montrose Lake, and surrounded by several small bodies of water. La Due is northeast of Montrose, and Appleton City is to the south-southwest.
