The city of New Franklin is in Howard County, Missouri. The town was originally part of Franklin, which is sometimes known as Old Franklin, in 1816. Due to frequent flooding, much of the town relocated to higher ground about a quarter mile northeast, forming the town of New Franklin. The city is the eastern terminus of the Santa Fe Trail, and the Katy Trail passes through the community. The small community of Estill is north of New Franklin, and Boonville is across the river to the south.
