Oregon, Missouri is the county seat of Holt County, in the northwestern part of the state. Laid out in 1841, the city was named for Oregon Territory, which was considered a prime destination of many of the people traveling through the area at the time. Its original name was Finley, for an early settler, however. US Highway 59 and Missouri Route 111 meet in Oregon. Forest City is just west of Oregon, and Interstate Highway 29 runs in a northwest/southeast direction east of the city.
