Situated along the Missouri River, the city of Riverside, Missouri is in Platte County. Incorporated in 1951, the town was known for its Riverside Race Track for many years. The Riverside Park Jockey Club operated there from 1928 to 1937, and was known as Pendergast Track, for its patron, Tom Pendergast, although that was not its official name. Replaced by an auto race track, the site closed in the 1990s. A gambling casino operated by Argosy Gaming Company is now located on the river. Surrounding communities include Houston Lake, Oakwood Oaks, and North Kansas City. The larger city of Kansas City is about six miles south of Riverside.
