The village of Sunrise Beach is in both Camden County and Morgan County, in central Missouri, near the Lake of the Ozarks. There were only timber and brush in the area of Sunrise Beach until the 1920s and early 1930s, when the construction of the Bagnell Dam by Union Electric created the lake, around which several communities grew, particularly for its recreational value. Sunrise Beach is situated near the center of the lake communities, with portions of the lake on all sides except for the northwest. The town of Laurie is northwest of Sunrise Beach and Hurricane Deck is to the south. The larger community of Osage Beach and the Lake of the Ozarks State Park are across the lake and to the southeast. Missouri Route 5 provides access to the city. The city and surrounding area are home to several resorts.
