Founded as a railroad town in 1872, the small city of Tracy is situated along the Platte River in Platte County, Missouri. The city was named for J.W. Tracey, a superintendent with the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad. The Platte County Fairgrounds are located on the northeast side of Tracy, between the city and Interstate Highway 29, which is also US Highway 71, and the Platte River flows through the southeastern part of town, separating Tracy from Platte City. West Platte is northwest of Tracy. Kansas City is twenty-six miles to the south-southeast.
