With a population of fewer than one hundred at the time of the 2010 census, Unity Village is the world headquarters of Unity, a spiritual movement with a membership of more than two million. Unity Village is in Jackson County, about fifteen miles southeast of downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The community came about in 1919, when Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, founders of Unity, purchased fifty-eight acres of land, which grew from a weekend retreat of tents and ponds into Unity Farm, raising orchards and apple products, which was later incorporated at Unity Village, which now encompasses more than one thousand and four hundred acres, most of which are wooded, although there is also a golf course, hotel and conference center, healing center, bookstore, coffee shop, walking trails, and wedding venues. Unity publishes Daily Word magazine and Silent Unity at its publishing facilities in the village, and two of the buildings in the village are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Unity Village is northwest of Lees Summit and southeast of Raytown.
