The city of Wildwood is a distant suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, located in far western St. Louis County, and home to the Al Foster Trail and several other trails, parks and reserves, including Rockwood State Park and Babler State Park. The city is bordered by Chesterfield, Clarkson Valley, Ellisville, Eureka and Pacific, and on the west by Franklin County. Other nearby communities include Ballwin, Castlewood, Cedar Bluff, Fox Creek, Glencoe, and Hollow. The city of St. Louis is about twenty-eight miles to the east. The professional baseball players, David Freese and Ryan Howard, grew up in Wildwood. Wildwood was incorporated after a prolonged effort that led to a Missouri Supreme Court decision allowing its incorporation in 1995. However, the area was settled nine years before the Lewis and Clark Expedition, as Americans took advantage of Spanish land grants in the area. What is now the city of Wildwood was once ten different communities centered around rural post offices.
