The small town of Circle is the seat of government for McCone County, Montana. Named for the circular brand of the Mabry Cattle Corporation who came to the region in 1884, the Circle post office was established in Peter Rorvik’s store in 1905. When McCone County was organized in 1919, Circle was named the county seat. The Great Northern Railroad extended its tracks to Circle in 1928, but it was abandoned in the 1990s. Circle has the distinction of being the furthest from the nearest Starbucks than any other town in the lower forty-eight states. Circle is located near the intersection of Highways 13, 2005, and 200, northeast of Brockway, south of Vida, southwest of Richey, and northwest of Lindsay and Glendive.
