The city of Harlem, in Blaine County, Montana, is an agricultural supply and shipping center situated north of the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, and across the river from Fort Belknap. The Milk River provides water for the irrigation of area crops, which include wheats, oats, barley, sweet peas, and others. Harlem was founded as a rail stop along the Great Northern Railway, which is now the Hi-Line, the BNSF Railroad line that parallels US Highway 2 across northern Montana. Harlem is east of Zurich and Chinook, and northwest of Dodson and Malta. It is near Montana’s border with Saskatchewan, Canada.
