The city of Bayard is in Morrill County, Nebraska. Founded in the 1880s, the town was named for Bayard, Iowa. In 1890, the town of Bayard was physically moved to its current site in order to be on the new Union Pacific Railroad line, some new buildings were constructed, and the town was incorporated in November of that year. A popular attraction in Bayard is Chimney Rock, a famous landmark on the Oregon Trail, situated three and a half miles south of the town. Bayard became a city in 1956. The city is situated twenty-five miles east of Scottsbluff.
