Beaver City is the county seat of Furnas County, in south-central Nebraska. The region began to be settled in the late 1860s and early 1870s, and the town that grew up there was named for its location on Beaver Creek, which runs through the south edge of town, and had itself been named for its large beaver population. The city was platted in 1872. Along Highway 89, Beaver City is east of Hendley and west of Hollinger.
