Brule is in Keith County, Nebraska. The village was founded in 1886, with the purchase of a quarter acre of land by Major Isaac Barton and his wife, Elizabeth, and named for the Brule Sioux, who camped at that location. The village’s population grew when the Union Pacific Railroad came through the area. Brule is a small rural village, situated about nine miles west of Ogallala, on Highway 30 and Interstate 80. Julesburg is to the southwest.
