Originally named Curtis Creek, the city of Curtis was organized in 1886, after the Burlington Railroad was extended to that point. Curtis is in Frontier County, Nebraska. The current town site is a few miles west of the original settlement. Captain R.O. Phillips, of the Lincoln Land Company, chose the site for the current town, which was nearer to the proposed track of the railroad. Curtis was incorporated as a village in 1887, and was designated at Nebraska’s “Easter City” by the state legislature in 1981, for its annual Easter pageant. Curtis is east of Maywood, southwest of Moorefield, and northwest of Stockville, and is centered at the intersection of Highways 23 and 18.
