Friend is a small city in Saline County, Nebraska. The city was named for Charles E. Friend, an early homesteader who operated a dry goods store and post office there in 1870, originally naming the community Friendville. However, when the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad reached the area in 1873, it renamed its station Friend, and the town eventually adopted the shorter name. Friend was incorporated in 1882. The National Greyhound Association was founded in Friend in 1906, although it was initially called the National Coursing Association. The city of Friend is east of Sutton, northeast of Geneva, southwest of Milford, and south of York.
