The village of Morrill is not in Morrill County, but in Scotts Bluff County, in northwestern Nebraska. The community was settled by people who came from the Fort Collins, Colorado region in 1886, giving it the name of Collins, after their home town. However, when the Burlington Railroad came through the area, the town moved about a mile south, to be nearer to the railroad. Charles Henry Morrill, president of the Lincoln Land Company, platted the new townsite, and the town was named for him when it was incorporated as a village in 1907. Morrill is northwest of Mitchell, and southeast of Henry and the Wyoming state border.
