Neligh is the county seat of Antelope County, Nebraska. The city was named for John D. Neligh, who purchased 560 acres there in 1872, convinced that it would be the ideal location for a county seat. The town was platted in 1873, and Neligh built a mill in the southern part of the town, which has since been included as a Nebraska State Historical Site. After a ten year legal battle, Neligh was named the county seat in 1884. Neligh is southeast of Clearwater, and northwest of Oakdale and Tilden.
