The town of Alexandria is in Grafton County, New Hampshire. Alexandria includes Welton Falls State Forest and Newfound Lake, a large, scenic lake, parts of which are in Bridgewater, Bristol and Hebron. The town was granted by the Masonian Proprietors in 1753, and named for Alexandria, Virginia. It was first settled by John Moore Corliss and his brother, Jonathan, and incorporated in 1782. Alexandria was home to Luther C. Ladd, the first enlisted soldier to lose his life during the American Civil War, who was shot during the Baltimore Riot.
