Situated along the Androscoggin River, in Coos County, the city of Berlin, New Hampshire includes the village of Cascade. Berlin is bordered by Gorham, Kilkenny, Milan, Randolph, and Success. New Hampshire Route 16 runs through the center of the city, leading north to Maine. Settled in the early 1820s, the community was first incorporated as Maynesborough, then reincorporated as Berlin in 1829. Through the early 20th century, the city’s economy was largely driven by pulp and paper mills, which have been in decline since.
