Situated in the Lakes Region of central New Hampshire, Bridgewater was chartered in 1788, when it was part of the town of New Chester, which was comprised of the land from Franklin to Plymouth, New Hampshire. New Chester separated into Bridgewater and Hill, and later into Bristol, Danbury, and Wilmot. The town was named for Bridgewater, Massachusetts, the home town of many of its early settlers. The town’s boundaries follow the eastern shore of Newfound Lake. Bridgewater is in Grafton County, New Hampshire, and is governed by a Selectman form of government.
