The town of Colebrook is in Coos County, in the Great North Woods Region of New Hampshire, bordered on the west by the Connecticut River. The town includes the main settlement of Colebrook, as well as the villages of Kidderville, Upper Kidderville, and Factory Village. The town was first granted by Colonial Governor Benning Wadsworth in 1762, and initially named Dryden. However, since the original grantees were unable to fulfill the mandates of the grant, it was regranted in 1770 by Governor John Wentworth, who renamed it Colebrook Town, for the East India Company’s chairman, Sir George Colebrook. The town was incorporated in 1796. Another account is that it was first named Coleburne.
