Deering is a small town in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. The land that became Deering was part of the Society Land, set aside for the Masonian Proprietors. Settled around 1765, the town was incorporated by Colonial Governor John Wentworth in 1774, who named the town after his wife, Frances Deering Wentworth. James W. Grimes, who served as U.S. senator from Iowa, and as Iowa’s third governor, was born in Deering. The town is served by NH Route 149. Deering is southeast of Hillsboro.
