Dorchester is a small town in Grafton County, New Hampshire. Originally granted by Governor Benning Wentworth in 1761, the town was named for Dorchester, Dorset, England. When the recipients failed to take up the grant, it was regranted in 1766, again without success. It was regranted a third time, by Governor John Wentworth, in 1772, and the town was settled not long after. Its first settlers were Benjamin Rice and Stephen Murch, who came from Hanover, although they were originally from Connecticut. New Hampshire Route 118 crosses through the town.
