Originally a neighborhood of Kingston, known as Kingston East Parish, the town of East Kingston, in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, was granted a separate charter by Governor Jonathan Belcher in 1738, the primary reasons for separation being that its location was too far from the Kingston school and church. The official boundary between Kingston and East Kingston was in dispute for several years. Unincorporated villages within the town include Monahan’s Corner and Powwow River. East Kingston is a combination residential and agricultural community, in which many of its residents commute out of town to work.
