Goshen is a small town in Sullivan County, New Hampshire. The community was first settled as part of Saville, which is now Sunapee, in 1768, separating to incorporate as an independent town in 1791. Goshen was probably named for Goshen, Connecticut, as many of its early settlers had roots there. Mount Sunapee is situated on the eastern edge of the town. John Williams Gunnison, a United States Army officer and explorer of the American West, was born in Goshen. Goshen is south of Newport, west of Newbury, east of Unity, and north of Lempster.
