The town of Hudson is situated along the Massachusetts state line, in southeastern Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. The town was first established as part of the Dunstable Land Grant that included the current city of Nashua, New Hampshire, as well as the Massachusetts towns of Dunstable and Pepperell, and nearby towns on both sides of the border. In 1732, all of Dunstable east of the Merrimack River became the town of Nottingham, Massachusetts. When the northern boundary of Massachusetts was established nine years later, the New Hampshire portion of Nottingham became Nottingham West, a name that was changed to Hudson in 1830, to avoid confusion with the older town of Nottingham. Today, the town has two historic centers, Hudson Village and Hudson Center.
