Newington is in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. The small town is bordered by Great Bay, Little Bay, and the Piscataqua River, and is home to Portsmouth International Airport at Pease, formerly Pease Air Force Base, as well as to the New Hampshire National Guard. Initially part of Dover, boundary disputes among early river settlers resulted in the area becoming known as Bloody Point. A meetinghouse was constructed there in 1712, creating the parish of Newington, named for an English village whose residents sent the bell for the meetinghouse. The town of Newington was incorporated by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth in 1764. U.S. Route 4 and New Hampshire Route 16 cross through the town.
